2020 Brighton-Howell Area Holiday Event Guide

December 9, 2020 | Story by: Shelby Rochowiak

A year unlike any other, 2020 has taught us that when plans fall through, we have the opportunity to rise up and think of creative solutions.

While some favorite annual holiday events may look a little different this year, you better watch out, you better not cry because holiday cheer is coming to Livingston County. This year’s celebrations will be filled with extra holiday spirit as we come together as a community to celebrate the season and welcome the new year.

Join downtown Howell for a brand new collaboration featuring the Fantasy of Lights Parade and Holiday in the Park events!

The Howell Chamber Foundation and Howell Recreation are joining forces to put together the largest holiday display in Howell history! Scofield Park will host this year’s drive-through Light Up Howell event which will feature thousands of strands of lights, an animated display set to music from Santa’s Light Crew, fun inflatables, and even a reverse parade. Community-built “floats” will be on display for the duration of the event, built by those who usually participate in the Fantasy of Lights Parade.

Wild Holidays with Santa at the Howell Nature Center

See the Wild Wonders Wildlife Park like never before! Stop by the hot cocoa bar before heading out to explore a magical winter wonderland full of festive decorations, visiting all your animal friends, and learning about their amazing winter adaptations. Then head to the NatureScape to drop off letters to Santa while the big man himself greets each child from high in his Christmas Treehouse Workshop! He will then deliver a special gift to every child.

Meet Santa and Ride the Spicer Express at Spicer’s Orchard

Spicer Orchards is currently planning to offer a “socially distanced” Santa for the 2020 season. What is “socially distanced” Santa?

It is not a Santa with a Mask.  Santa will be working in his sleigh workshop on “toys” for Christmas and his hands are stuck in the toy, Ohh Noo!!  So children will speak to Santa across his workbench.  Pictures will be available with Santa in the background.

The train ride, cider, and doughnuts are all included in the ticket price. Bring your ticket into the market after your train ride for delicious holiday treats!

Howell Winter Marketplace at the Howell Opera House

Free admission and open to the public. A family-oriented Marketplace will be held twice a month November – April at the Howell Opera House.

Come and visit Allen & Sons Woodworking with Michigan-inspired furniture and home decor. Shop homemade baked goods, produce, gourmet cheeses, and more!

Santa at the Stables

Join Santa and his Elves at the Heavenly Horse Stables! Visit with Santa and check out what his elves have to offer throughout the Stables! Christmas cookies and hot cocoa will be in the same room as their charming boutique, filled with handmade gifts!

Kids get to talk with Santa (who will be on a horse!) and get a photo taken. Santa will be at the stables every Saturday in December! There is a small fee for certain activities, donations, and tips accepted.

Holiday Light-Up Sign Painting Class at Walnut Street Marketplace

Classes are held at the warehouse of the marketplace. The class fee is $65.00. Your class will usually last for about 3 hours. Class size is limited to 8 students, so sign up early! For more information and class dates, visit the Walnut Street Marketplace Facebook page.

Sip on hot cocoa while waiting to see Santa and the beautiful view of Lake Walden. Take advantage of the picture-perfect setting and take photos with Santa (while social distancing) in front of the historic Cromaine Lodge.

Take a hot and delicious family pack lunch to go. The family pack includes a generous portion of spaghetti with homemade marinara sauce, meatballs, a fresh tossed garden salad, and breadsticks. Take-home Smores kits are also available and include a fun craft and cookie decorating kit.

Waldenwoods Resort encourages children to mail letters to Santa at Hartland Township Hall by Dec. 18 to get a note back from Santa and his elves!
