Detroit Polo Club – Know Before You Go!

June 10, 2022

The Hartland Polo Classic is coming up soon! Save the date for Saturday, June 18th! Until then, we caught up with Emmalyn Wheaton, manager of the Detroit Polo Club, to let you know everything you need to know before you go!

What is your favorite part about being an attraction in the Brighton-Howell Area?

Detroit Polo Club: We love that we can offer a new and exciting experience within our community and the energy and passion our community has for polo! We get to share the passion we have for our sport and horses every time we step onto the field and that is by far the most rewarding and special part of calling Livingston County home. We have worked hard to dispel the image that polo can be highbrow and make polo accessible to our community by sharing the sport we love!

Why is the Detroit Polo Club an important player in our community?

Detroit Polo Club: There are very few communities across the country that can claim to be hosts to a polo club and we love that we can bring this unique experience to Livingston County.

What is something a first-time visitor to the Detroit Polo Club should know?

Detroit Polo Club: We have polo matches Friday and Sunday throughout the summer and fall and they are open to the public! Pack a tailgate picnic, park fieldside with friends and family, and enjoy a beautiful Friday night sunset or a gorgeous Sunday afternoon at the field watching our beautiful ponies play! Dogs on leashes are welcome too! Our teams and management are very approachable and happy to help and answer any questions you might have about the sport, our horses, and the club!

Why should someone visit Detroit Polo Club?

Detroit Polo Club: If you have never experienced a polo match in person, you are in for a completely unique and amazing experience!  Did you know that you can learn to play with us too? We offer lessons for all skill levels, from the complete beginner to the most experienced rider, no experience is necessary and we have safe horses and supply all the equipment to learn to play the game!

What is not to be missed at the Detroit Polo Club?

Detroit Polo Club: Our special events each summer are not to be missed! We partner with local businesses and charities to bring unique events and outings to Livingston County. Our introductory polo lessons are a great date night, special gift, or just a great way to give polo a try yourself!
