Kittens & Crooners featuring Jill Jack & The American Songbook Band
Five years ago, 2 Stones Events came up with a new live music series – Kittens & Crooners – to celebrate the music and style of our country’s classic jazz singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, Tony Bennett, and Rosemary Clooney. The four shows we held in 2016 at the Tipping Point Theater in Northville went over so well that we continued presenting live jazz at that venue until the pandemic put a halt to indoor concerts. (Don’t worry — we’ll be doing shows there again.)
Well, now it’s time to revive Kittens & Crooners, and we’ve found another intimate venue that’s perfect for this type of performance: the lower level of Ciao Amici’s restaurant in downtown Brighton. Seating will be limited to just 100, and there will be a cash bar to enjoy a beverage during the two-set concert.
Five years ago, Jill Jack & The American Songbook Band performed an amazing concert for that first Kittens & Crooners series, so what better way to kick off this new season than to bring her and her fabulous musicians to Brighton on Saturday, January 22; doors will open at 8 p.m. for the first set at 8:30.
Tickets are priced at $25 and go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19.
Many recognize Jill for her remarkable career in the Americana genre in which she has garnered more than 40 Detroit Music Awards. But in 2014, she and drummer Ron Pangborn decided to put together an ensemble to focus solely on the songs they grew up listening to on their parents’ stereos – the canon of important and influential popular songs and jazz standards of the 20th century collectively known as The Great American Songbook. Jill then released Pure Imagination, a nine-song CD that her band uses as a platform to stretch out with their own gorgeous renditions in live performances.
