Howell Depot Museum

One of the iconic landmarks of Howell is the red and white wood train station, officially known as the Howell Depot Museum. Located on the north end of the scenic downtown, this landmark and museum is a historical hub of the area.

Howell Depot Museum was purchased by the Howell Historical Society in 1971 after it had been vacant since passenger rail travel ended in 1951. Through hard work and a dedicated vision of preservation and showmanship, the museum was designated as a space to display historical artifacts of the depot and surrounding area and to preserve the historic 1886 Ann Arbor Railroad alongside it. The Depot was listed on both the State Register of Historic Sites and the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and 1971, the first structure in Howell to be so recognized.

Each Sunday during the summer, the museum is open to the public for self-guided and guided tours with the Howell Area Historical Society.
