Treat Yourself to a Book Date

February 28, 2022

Please enjoy this guest blog from Howell resident, Madison Lim.

In theory, you’re supposed to go on a date with another person, but why do that when you can have a book as your date? With March being National Reading Month it only feels right to give you the perfect way to enjoy a book in Livingston County. To begin your Book Date you’ll of course have to have a coffee. If books were to have a soulmate, it would be caffeine.

Grab a drink at Black Iron Coffee Roasters

Black Iron Coffee Roasters is a local independent coffee shop and roastery located in the heart of Downtown Howell. The shop specializes in single-source regional coffees. They work every day to create the perfect cup of coffee for their customers. If coffee isn’t enough for you, they carry a breakfast and lunch menu that will taste delicious with your perfect cup of Joe and paperback book.

Pick up a yummy lunch at Bagels & Bites Cafe

Bagels & Bites Café is a family-owned and operated cafe that offers a full of 21 varieties of freshly baked bagels, muffins, scones, and cookies. They craft filling healthy food for you to bite into. Bagels & Bites Café make amazing bagel sandwiches great for sitting down and eating with one hand and reading with the other.

The Key Ingredient for a Book Date? A book from 2 Dandelions Bookshop

Browse for your book date at  2 Dandelions Bookshop on West Main Street. The two owners are longtime best friends with a dream of owning a bookshop and spreading the love of reading to the community. Stroll through their cozy shop to find your next great love (in the form of a book. They don’t sell meet-cutes). They have a well-read staff who can offer up recommendations in any genre your heart desires if you can’t make up your mind.

Next, take your date to Mill Pond

When the Imagination Station gets too crowded for you to hide in one of the wooden structures you can take your coffee, lunch, and book to the Mill Pond. Choose a bench either on the sidewalks around the lake or one on the boardwalk to become in tune with nature. Enjoy the peace and quiet with only the ducks and water to keep you company. You and your book can get well acquainted there, and maybe there will be a second date in the future if all goes well!
