Kensington Metropark Farm Center

The Kensington Metropark Farm Center allows visitors to explore animals up close. Immerse yourself in the world through the sights, smells, and sounds of life on the farm. Here, you can meet live farm animals like chickens, goats, sheep, and more. On the grounds within the park, you’ll visit the 150-year-old restored barn that includes an educational exhibit and children’s play area.

The river runs through the farm center area. Along its bank, you’ll see the one-of-a-kind “Green Building” made completely from recycled and other natural materials. This section of the farm center also has a stone labyrinth, a grass maze, and an early skills area with a blacksmith shop and a brick oven.

Wander through the herb garden and field crops and test your knowledge of identifying common household foods. On display are old-fashioned farm equipment and tools you’d find on the farm. Education programs on the animals, historical techniques, and other farm-related topics are offered periodically.

Animals

Several species of domestic farm animals call Kensington Metropark Farm Center their home. Horses, cows, pigs, sheep, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, and rabbits are all permanent residents. Enjoy a hands-on experience with many of the animals; they love to have their head scratched.

Many animals live their whole lives at the farm, so you can visit them and watch them grow each time you stop by.

Hayrides

All ages are invited to tour the farm in the back of a tractor, hayride style! The wagon tours the woods and fields around the Farm Center, giving views of nature and water. Hayrides run every weekend on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from Noon to 4 p.m. and last approximately 20 minutes. The wagons accommodate approximately 15 people.

Ask the Metropark team about private rides; Private Charter Hayrides ensure you and your group have a hayride completely to yourself.
