The Mike Levine Lakelands Trail State Park is a 39-mile-long linear trail that passes through woods, pastures, and wetlands. It offers views of the serene Huron River and many other bodies of water throughout the Brighton Howell Area and beyond. The trail touches each end of Livingston County and reaches Jackson and Ingham counties. This multiple-use trail suits biking, walking, running, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, and equestrian use. The paved section of the trail lies between Hall Road and M-36 and is the best pick for a bicycle or longboard trip. The pavement stretches past the iconic Zukey Lake Tavern, so you can stop in for a bite if you get hungry on the trail. The remaining surface comprises limestone and crushed slag, which is comfortable for outdoor lovers and equestrian use. The Mike Levine Lakelands Trail State Park trail connects straight to the Pinckney Recreation Area, which provides park-goers with an additional 13 miles of riding. The 39-mile trail is popular due to its vast beauty and accessibility. Bathrooms are stationed around the trail system in Hamburg, Pinckney, Gregory, and Stockbridge. Motorized vehicles, snowmobiles, and hunting are prohibited throughout the year. In 2018, the trail was renamed to honor Michigan Trails champion Mike Levine.
