9:00 am - 11:00 am
March is one of the best times to experience birding in the Brighton Howell Area, and Kensington Metropark offers a front-row seat to one of nature’s most fascinating seasonal events. Join Detroit Bird Alliance leaders Esha Biswas and Jim Mahon for a guided morning of birding at the park, timed perfectly with the start of nesting season at the Great Blue Heron rookery at Wildwing Lake.
During March, Great Blue Herons return to nest and court high in the treetops, while many smaller birds are especially active and eager to feed. Participants will have the unique opportunity to hand-feed wild birds such as Black-capped Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, White-breasted Nuthatches, Downy Woodpeckers, and possibly more. Bird seed will be provided, making this an ideal chance for up-close observation and memorable photos.
The experience includes a guided walk of approximately one mile along Kensington’s scenic nature trails. After the program, visitors are encouraged to stay and explore more of the park’s natural beauty.
Meeting Location: Kensington Metropark Nature Center
Important Note: A daily park entrance fee or an annual Metroparks pass is required to enter Kensington Metropark.
