Catch and Cook
Plan a memorable Michigan getaway with a hands-on outdoor experience at Bishop Lake in the Brighton Recreation Area. On Saturday, June 13, families are invited to a Catch & Cook event hosted by Wild Michigan Youth, running from early morning arrival through the afternoon. Fishing begins as soon as you arrive, followed by a fish cleaning demonstration at 11:00 a.m. and a community fish fry at 11:30 a.m. This special fee‑free weekend means no fishing license or vehicle entry fees, making it easy to try something new.
Turn the day into a destination getaway by exploring the area’s hidden gems. After the event, stroll downtown Brighton for local shops and dining, paddle or hike at nearby Island Lake State Recreation Area, or grab a bite at one of the area’s popular cafés and breweries. Whether you’re introducing kids to fishing or planning a relaxed weekend outdoors, Bishop Lake and the surrounding Brighton‑Howell area offer a perfect blend of nature, food, and small‑town charm.
