Brighton Recreation Area
Brighton Recreation Area consists of high, irregular hills interspersed with attractive lakes. The park features several miles of trails for equestrian riding, mountain biking, hiking, and other outdoor recreation activities.
Brighton Recreation Area provides 4,947 acres of recreation for park visitors. The area has a combination of high, irregular ranges of hills interspersed with several attractive lakes and campgrounds. Brighton Recreation Area has several miles of trails available for equestrian, mountain biking, and hiking. For new bikers, there is a test track course that can help familiarize you with mountain biking terrain. Oak forests, thick hedgerows, and open spaces blend on the uplands, while grassy marshes, shrub marshes, and dense swamp timber mark the lowlands.
This park is home to gorgeous lakes, including Bishop Lake, Appleton Lake, and Murray Lake. Murray Lake and Bishop Lake are perfect for fishing and spending time in nature. Several lakes have lookout and pier areas open for fishing and sightseeing. A free disc golf course for patrons to enjoy sits right next to the water.
Bishop Lake Beach is surrounded by gorgeous greenery and biking and hiking trails. You can lay on the peaceful beach as your kids play in the water or on Jump Island. Bring some burgers or hot dogs and use the picnic areas, playgrounds, and shelter areas to take a break from the sun. If you’re feeling competitive, start a volleyball game at their beach volleyball court steps away from the water.
Boat Launch:
The Bishop Lake boat launch is located on the northern side of the lake. You can drop your canoe or kayak right into the lake. Drop your vessel and enjoy the 119 acres of Bishop Lake.
Appleton Lake boat launch is located on the lake’s southwest side, with 10 parking spots available. You can easily drop your canoe or kayak right into the lake.
Rentals:
Bishop Lake Campground Office offers kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards for rent. You can rent them for 2 hours, 4 hours, or all day. They provide life jackets, and the vessels are first come, first served.
Throughout the park there are five different campgrounds for overnight accommodations, including one yurt. The grounds are a combination of rustic and regular campgrounds. You’re welcome to bring your dog from home, but it must stay on a 6-foot leash at all times.
