Each August, the Howell Melon Festival celebrates the rare Howell melon, a cantaloupe variety grown only in this area. This beloved summer tradition features a parade, live entertainment, local vendors, family-friendly activities, and plenty of fresh Howell melon to enjoy.
This can’t-miss summer tradition brings the community and visitors together to celebrate this beloved fruit while highlighting the area’s nostalgic charm, delicious melon ice cream, and vibrant festival atmosphere.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy live entertainment, a variety of vendors, delicious food, and, let’s not forget, the beloved Howell Melon Ice Cream. The whole family can enjoy a range of activities like the Howell Melon Run and the Melon Roll.
Admission to the Howell Melon Festival is free, making it an easy and affordable way to enjoy one of the area's favorite summer traditions. The festival takes place throughout downtown Howell, where many streets are closed to vehicle traffic during the event. Parking is available throughout the city, but arriving early is recommended for popular attractions like the parade and Melon Run. Wear comfortable shoes, bring cash and a card for food and vendor purchases, and check the festival schedule before you go so you can plan your day. And of course, don't leave without trying the famous Howell melon.

There is no designated festival parking. Visitors can use public City of Howell parking lots, including limited accessible parking. Plan to arrive early for the best availability.
The Howell Rotary Club sells the famous melon ice cream on the courthouse lawn throughout the festival while supplies last. It sells out every year, so stop by early. Family-size containers are also available in limited quantities at Jonna's Market.
Fresh Howell melons are sold during the festival by Bentley Lake Farms and are also available at their farm market and select local produce stands.
Live music takes place throughout the weekend, with performances Thursday through Saturday, including the Saturday night headliner, First Time Crush.
The vendor market is open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Portable and public restrooms are available throughout downtown, including near the festival tent, courthouse, food truck area, and along Grand River.
