The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest is one of Michigan's most popular summer festivals, bringing colorful hot air balloons, family-friendly entertainment, carnival rides, delicious food, and spectacular fireworks to Howell each year. Held during the last weekend in June, this annual event offers something for visitors of all ages.

Saturday Night Balloon Glow

Weather permitting, dozens of hot air balloons launch throughout the weekend, while Saturday night's Balloon Glow lights up the launch field after dark. The opening night concludes with a fireworks display.

The festival also includes a carnival with more than 20 rides and midway games. Carnival access is included with admission, while ride wristbands and individual ride tickets are available for purchase. Families can also visit the Family Fun Tent for children's activities and live entertainment throughout the weekend.

Food trucks and local vendors are located near the carnival, offering a variety of festival favorites.

Know Before You Go

For a comfortable visit, bring lawn chairs or blankets, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, a light jacket for the evening, and bug spray.


Balloon rides are not available during the festival because pilots are competing. Pets and drones are prohibited, and alcohol, grilling, and smoking are not permitted on school grounds. Visit the Information Booth next to the launch field for schedules, updates, and event information.
