Once the snow melts away and the warmer temperatures debut, it’s time to get out of the house and explore. However, you don’t have to break the bank on your springtime getaway to enjoy the wonders of the Brighton Howell Area! Here are a few free ways to explore the Brighton Howell Area this spring.


Go for a Hike

There are 123 trails within the Brighton Howell Area. Each offers optimal views, various difficulty levels, and the perfect opportunity to explore the great outdoors. Although vehicle passes are required to gain entry into the Recreation Areas, there are a variety of other parks that allow you to walk the trails for free.


Go Birding

📍: Kensington Metropark

Kensington Metropark is a birding hot spot as many species migrate to the area during the warmer months. This Metropark is one of the best places to hand-fee birds in southeast Michigan. While you wander the scenic trails of the Metropark, you’ll be surrounded by many varieties of birds waiting to fly right into your hand – with the correct food of course.


Attend an Event

Throughout the spring season, the Brighton Howell event calendar is loaded with fun-filled activities just waiting for you to experience them. For art lovers, you’ll be happy to find art fairs and festivals throughout the area, like the Kensington Art Fair and Picnkney’s Art in the Park. One of the final spring events – the Hamburg Family Fun Fest, is the ultimate way to wrap up the season.


Peruse Local Farmers’ Markets

Kicking off the first weekend of May, the Brighton Howell Area has multiple chances for you to explore local farmers, crafters, and vendors at an area Farmers’ Market! Experience a vast array of locally grown produce, freshly picked flowers, and plenty of herbs. Many artists and crafters showcase their goods at each Farmers’ Market. While at Howell or Brighton’s market, explore each shop, eatery, and bakery to round out your visit!


Visit Local and Township Parks

The Brighton Howell Area has local and township parks that are completely free to visit. Manly Bennett Park is a one-stop shop that allows kids to release energy on the playground and jungle gym. This township park offers hiking and biking trails and a disc golf course. Genoa Township Park features three different playgrounds, a water misting feature, and walkable paths. Other area parks offer many of the same features and are the perfect spot to include in your spring getaway without breaking the bank.
