1. Potawatomi Trail | 17.6 Miles

📍: Pinckney Recreation Area
Difficulty: Moderate

Located in the heart of the Pinckney Recreation Area, the Potawatomi trail is an absolute favorite amoung mountain bikers. This trail runs in a 17.6 mile loop but can be cut short by using The Shortcut which eliminates about three miles. Find the trailhead at the end of the first parking lot when entering the Pinckney Recreation Area.

Nearby trails: Crooked Lake Trail (4.4 miles), Chain of Lakes Trail (7.8 miles), and Gosling Lake Trail Loop (5.9 miles).

2. Settlers Park | 6.1 Miles

📍: Hartland
Difficulty: Moderate

Settlers Park houses three loops of natural surface trails known as Section 21 trails. The first Loop is 2 miles long that runs through a mature forest-like setting. Loop 2 is 3 miles long, offering various hills, fields, and tree coverage. This loop features a variety of optional skill sections including log piles, dirt jumps, rock gardens, and more. The third loop is a tight twisty single track that runs for 1.5 miles. All three loops are interconnected and have multiple access points.

Bikers can enjoy all-year night riding and fat biking in the winter, making it accessible any time of year!

3. Mike Levine Lakelands Trail | 33 Miles

📍: Pinckney/Hamburg
Difficulty: Moderate

The Mike Levine Lakelands Trail is very popular among both bikers and hikers. This mostly dirt trail runs 33 miles through woods, pastures, and wetlands. Bikers can expect to find serenity and scenic views of the Huron River, dense forest, and the occasional horseback rider. As the Lakeland Trail stretches so many miles, it hits multiple counties. Keep in mind that the trail includes road crossings.

There are five different trailhead locations making the Lakelands Trail easily accessible.

4. Island Lake Recreation Area

📍: Brighton
Difficulty: Easy – Moderate

Island Lake Recreation Area allows visitors to feel like they’re “Up North” Michigan, without the hours-long drive. The Recreation Area offers a variety of biking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulties. Housing two lakes, the Huron River, and a Spring Mill Pond, this Recreation Area gives bikers the chance to cool off after their ride. Find all the bike-accessible trails here.
