Celebrate March Reading Month at Local Libraries and Bookstores

March 2, 2021

“The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Suess

The beloved Dr. Suess was born on March 2, which is why every March we honor him by designating March as National Reading Month. Reading is enjoyable at any age and has a number of benefits including memory improvement, vocabulary expansion, and stress reduction.

Next time you’re out and about, stop into one of these local gems and challenge yourself to finish a book during National Reading Month. Your mental health and our local businesses will appreciate the support!

You can find more shopping ideas and experiences in the Brighton-Howell Area here.

Visit 2 Dandelions Bookshop’s brand new location

Go check out 2 Dandelions Bookshop’s new location on West Main Street.  2 Dandelions flourishes in downtown Brighton because of the strong community connections they have created. When times were tough for small businesses, 2 Dandelion’s offered support by giving customers 20% off book purchases when they brought a carryout receipt from a local restaurant.

2 Dandelions supports efforts that build literacy and connection within the community to ignite the love of reading in Livingston County. Community connections include in-store book fairs, where a portion of the proceeds go toward your cause.

Purchase gift cards at a discounted rate of 5-15% off if they will be featured at a non-profit fundraising event or for a school/organization. Visit their website for more information on scheduling events and other community connection opportunities.

In addition to a new store to explore, 2 Dandelions offers a variety of ways to shop. Try back door pick-up and pay over the phone for contactless pick-up. Browse bookshelves from the safety of home through video chat shopping, or try appointment shopping for a private shopping experience. Free local delivery and online shopping are also available.

Next time you’re in downtown Brighton, stop in and browse or ask for a recommendation from their well-read staff!

There are always entertaining events to check out at the Cromaine Library

Between yoga, trivia, and take-home craft kits there is always something exciting going on at the Cromaine Library in Hartland. Read their digital newsletter or visit their website to always stay updated on their weekly events.

Visit Cromaine Library and join a book club, or fly solo and access magazines and audiobooks from home using the Libby App with your Cromaine Library card.

This March, Cromaine Library invites people of all ages to flex their writing muscles and participate in the Six-Word Stories Contest. All entries will be showcased on the Cromaine Connector Blog and Cromaine’s Facebook page.

Additionally, stay tuned for their Summer Concert Series where they bring seven nights of music to the South Lawn Summer 2021. The seven dates are the following:

Escape to the beautiful Howell Carnegie Library, located in the center of Howell

This beautiful historic building is a must-see in downtown Howell. It was built in 1906 and still serves the Livingston County Community today. This library is a hub for genealogy and local history, learning resources, technology/book rentals, and a wide variety of community events.

Discuss poetry, or take a Zoom class to learn how to write your very own memoir.

Rent an interactive movie to shake up movie night, or join the Trashy Book Club!

The opportunities are endless at the Howell Carnegie Library and they offer services that people of all ages can come together (or stay socially distanced) to enjoy.
